Epistemic discipline

The Field to Which This Belongs

This section does not ask the reader to adopt a position, revise a belief, or abandon an existing framework.

Its purpose is to identify the disciplinary context in which this work operates so that it may be evaluated on its own terms.

Catch-52 advances an epistemic discipline concerned not merely with what is known, but with how knowing occurs.

Within this discipline, emotion, identity, and continuity are treated not as peripheral influences upon interpretation, but as constitutive mechanisms through which interpretation is organized, stabilized, and maintained.

Lived experience is not approached as anecdote, pathology, or bias. It is treated as epistemic signal—subject to validity, constraint, and examination.

Within this discipline:

  • Identity is not performative, but positional.

  • Emotion is not metaphorical, but mechanistic.

  • Continuity is not nostalgic, but structural.

Knowledge, in this view, is situated, relational, and consequential. It does not emerge independently of context, but through the interaction of interpretive systems operating under conditions of uncertainty.
